Iceland US Navy plane crash rainbow - 11 x 17 GLOSSY
$65.00
In 1973 a US Navy Douglas C-117D encountered severe icing and the crew were forced to land on a frozen river at Solheimasasndur. All 7 crew members survived and were rescued by helicopter, but the aircraft was written off and left there. The unsalvaged remains were left at the scene and even after 50 years the fuselage remains relatively intact making the site a popular tourist destination. We happened to get extremely lucky the day we visited with a faint rainbow framing the remains.
